Sygen Pharmaceuticals Limited has been named one of three finalists in the Manufacturing Champions category of the 2026 Africa Sustainable Futures Awards, presented by the Financial Times and the World Bank Group’s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
The recognition highlights Sygen’s ongoing transformation of distressed pharmaceutical manufacturing assets into a growing indigenous manufacturing and distribution platform, strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare supply chains and contributing to sustainable industrial development.
Since acquiring the assets of Nigerian-German Chemicals in 2020, Sygen has mobilised more than US$21 million in investment, supporting an estimated 42,000 jobs and livelihoods across its wider value chain.
The company’s transformation has focused on restoring industrial productivity, strengthening local medicine production, improving access to affordable medicines and investing in more sustainable manufacturing operations.
Sygen’s longer-term ambition includes achieving WHO Good Manufacturing Practice certification, expanding its pharmaceutical portfolio and building a stronger regional manufacturing and distribution business.
The company joins Omnicane of Mauritius and Roam of Kenya as the three finalists in the Manufacturing Champions category, and winners will be announced on 22 October 2026 in London, following the Financial Times Africa Summit.
